G.T.C. Patigi Alumni Seeks Kwara Govt Support for College Renovation, Development

The G.T.C. Patigi Alumni Association has appealed to the Kwara State Government and Patigi Local Government Council to provide further support for the renovation, rehabilitation and development of Government Technical College (G.T.C.), Patigi.

The appeal was made during a stakeholders’ meeting of the alumni association held on September 13, 2026, in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

The meeting brought together former students and other stakeholders to deliberate on the development of the institution, the welfare of its alumni and ways to further improve the college’s facilities and learning environment.

Established in 1960 during the colonial era, G.T.C. Patigi School of Techno-Craft was among the earliest technical schools in Northern Nigeria. The institution was upgraded in 1973 from a Craft School to a Technical College.

The college was established to provide skilled manpower for industries, increase local production and promote entrepreneurship through practical and vocational education.

At the time, students of technical schools received practical training and the certificate they are offering is National Business technical examination (NABTEB) both the O and levels approved by the National Board for technical education (NBT) in collaboration with NABTEB.

The alumni association, which was formally created on January 1, 2016, has undertaken various projects within the school premises and contributed to efforts aimed at improving the institution.

Speaking on the need for continued support, members of the association stressed the importance of restoring and upgrading the college to meet contemporary standards and provide students with the practical skills required in today’s economy.

The association also expressed appreciation to the Kwara State Government for its ongoing development initiatives across Patigi Local Government Area, particularly efforts aimed at improving infrastructure and access to modern facilities.

The alumni and stakeholders also commended the government for the new injection substation being provided for the people of the area, describing the development as a positive step towards improving electricity supply and supporting socio-economic activities in the region.

They called for sustained collaboration between the government, local authorities, alumni association and other stakeholders to ensure the continued growth and development of G.T.C. Patigi.

The association said its members remained committed to contributing their expertise and resources towards the advancement of their alma mater and the development of Patigi Local Government Area.
