The National Examinations Council (NECO) has approved July 22 and 23, 2026, for the conduct of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) re-sit in Mathematics and English Studies.

The decision was reached during a meeting attended by secondary school principals from across the country and members of NECO’s management team.

According to the council, the re-sit examination is intended for candidates with conditional deficiencies in Mathematics, English Studies, or both subjects. The initiative is designed to give affected students another opportunity to meet the requirements for admission into Senior Secondary School One (SSS I).

NECO noted that the exercise will enable eligible candidates to address their deficiencies and obtain the necessary certification without having to repeat an entire academic session.

The examination body reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining credible assessment standards while ensuring that qualified candidates are provided with opportunities to advance in their academic journey.
