Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has urged candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), particularly governorship aspirants, to prepare for intense political contests, stressing that political power must be earned through hard work and determination.

Wike made the remarks during the 109th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the PDP held at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata House, in Abuja.

Addressing party candidates, the former Rivers State governor said no one should expect political power to be handed to them freely, noting that every successful politician must be willing to fight for their ambitions.

“Nobody gives power, and nobody will dash anyone power. Whoever seeks power must be ready to struggle for it,” he said.

Wike recalled his own political journey, stating that he had to overcome significant challenges, including legal battles that reached the Supreme Court during his bid for a local government chairmanship position.

The minister’s comments come amid renewed discussions about his political future following recent praise from both the PDP and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Last week, the PDP described Wike as one of its finest political talents and dismissed suggestions that he could defect to the APC. Similarly, APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, recently commended Wike’s performance as FCT minister during the inauguration of road projects in Abuja, expressing admiration for his work ethic.

However, Jungudo Mohammed, the National Publicity Secretary of Wike’s faction within the PDP, maintained that the minister remains committed to the opposition party, describing his role in President Bola Tinubu’s administration as a temporary arrangement.

Mohammed reiterated that the PDP has no plans to lose one of its most influential political figures despite overtures from the ruling party.
