Obafemi Hamzat, deputy governor of Lagos State, has pledged to serve with integrity, focus and a clear sense of purpose if elected governor in 2027, following an endorsement from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Hamzat made the statement after Sanwo-Olu publicly backed his governorship ambition during a meeting with party leaders at the governor’s office in Alausa on Monday.

In a video seen online, Sanwo-Olu described his deputy as the “best man for the job” and offered prayers for his success, asking for strength, peace and divine support in his future endeavours.

At the close of the meeting, the governor embraced Hamzat and raised his hand before party leaders in a symbolic show of support, drawing applause from those present.

Reacting via his X page, Hamzat expressed gratitude for the endorsement, describing it as deeply significant.

“Today, I am honoured by the endorsement of my Governor, my brother and my friend, HE Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu,” he wrote.

“His trust means a great deal to me. We’ve worked side by side in the service of Lagos State, and I do not take this vote of confidence lightly.

“I remain committed to building on the progress we’ve made together and look forward to serving Lagosians with integrity, focus and a clear sense of purpose.”

The endorsement comes amid growing political discussions around the 2027 governorship race in Lagos under the All Progressives Congress, with Hamzat widely seen as a leading contender.

However, Abdul-Azeez Adediran, a former governorship candidate, has dismissed claims that the party has settled for a preferred aspirant.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Jandor maintained that no formal decision has been reached by party leaders, adding that he would abide by any consensus arrangement if eventually adopted.
