Three Senators Defect from PDP to APC

Three senators have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing internal crises within the opposition party in their states.

The lawmakers — Amos Yohanna (Adamawa North), Aminu Iya Abbas (Adamawa Central), and Ikra Aliyu Bilbis (Zamfara Central) — formally announced their defection through letters read during Senate plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

With the latest development, the APC now holds 83 seats in the Senate, while the PDP’s representation has dropped to 19.

Reacting, Akpabio said the wave of defections indicates that Nigeria is moving in the right direction, attributing it to the economic reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, including fuel subsidy removal and foreign exchange reforms.
