2027: Tinubu Has Majority of Governors Behind Him – Galadima

Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has the backing of the majority of state governors ahead of the 2027 general election.

Galadima made the remark during the inauguration of the NDC National Reconciliation Committee, where he stated that “34 and a half” governors are currently supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid.

According to him, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is the only governor who has openly stayed away from Tinubu’s camp, while Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State remains undecided.

Explaining why he described Mohammed as “half”, Galadima said the Bauchi governor met with NDC stakeholders around 3:00 a.m. but later called to rescind his decision after being advised against joining a political platform with a strong presidential candidate.

“So, Bala Mohammed is on the fence. He may work with us; he may work with them. That is why I describe him as half,” Galadima said.

He also argued that parties in power have the advantage of determining their candidates and persuading other aspirants to step down, adding that the opposition has little to offer beyond patriotism and the desire to “salvage the country.”

The comments come amid increasing political consultations and realignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
