2027: Tinubu Afraid To Face Nigerians, ADC Says
The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC) has accused President Bola Tinubu of being afraid to face Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general election.
The council said the reported plan by Tinubu not to campaign across all 36 states showed a lack of respect for the people he wants to govern for another four years.
It also claimed that the decision could work in favour of the ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, who it said was ready to visit Nigerians across the country to seek their support.
The ADC-PCC Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, made the remarks while receiving a delegation of young people under the group Young Voters for Atiku (YVA).
Ologbondiyan said a president seeking re-election should be willing to meet voters, explain his achievements and answer questions about his administration.
He argued that Tinubu should not use his official duties as an excuse to avoid meeting Nigerians during the election campaign.
According to him, previous Nigerian presidents, including Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari, carried out their official duties while also campaigning for re-election.
He also pointed to former United States presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris as examples of politicians who took their campaigns to voters.
The ADC campaign spokesman questioned why Tinubu should be treated differently from other political leaders who had campaigned while holding public office.
He further alleged that the president was reluctant to meet Nigerians because of the hardship many citizens were facing under his administration.
Ologbondiyan listed hunger, poverty, insecurity and the rising cost of living among the problems affecting Nigerians. He claimed that the situation had made many citizens unhappy with the government.
The ADC-PCC spokesman also accused Tinubu of failing to address the country’s challenges, adding that the president should be ready to answer questions from Nigerians about his performance.
He urged young people across the country to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election.
Ologbondiyan said another term for the ruling party could prolong the difficulties Nigerians were experiencing. He called on young voters to support a change in government and demand better living conditions.
He also presented Atiku as a suitable alternative to Tinubu, describing the former vice-president as physically fit, mentally alert and prepared to lead the country.
According to the ADC campaign council, Atiku is ready to take his campaign to all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ahead of the election.
Ologbondiyan said an ADC-led government would focus on improving the economy, creating wealth, tackling insecurity and reducing the suffering of Nigerians.
He also promised that an Atiku administration would restore the fuel subsidy to reduce the cost of petroleum products, create jobs and address hunger and poverty.
The campaign spokesman maintained that Atiku had the experience and ability needed to improve the country’s economic situation and provide better living conditions for citizens.
Meanwhile, the ADC-PCC claimed that the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council had improved its own political position.
The council alleged that the event failed to attract endorsements from ADC members and supporters, which it presented as a sign of its growing political strength ahead of the 2027 general election.
The allegations come as political parties and their supporters continue to prepare for the next presidential election, with Tinubu expected to face opposition candidates seeking to take over leadership of the country.
