Nigerian Fuji singer Destiny Boy has died at the age of 22.

The news of his death emerged on Sunday after videos showing his lifeless body being conveyed to a mortuary surfaced on social media, triggering widespread grief and speculation over the circumstances surrounding his passing.

In one of the videos, the late artiste was seen lying in the back of a vehicle with cotton wool placed in his nostrils and ears. Unverified reports circulating online claimed he vomited blood shortly before his death.

However, an unidentified associate of the singer sought to clarify the situation in a separate video, stating that Destiny Boy had been battling a health challenge prior to his demise.

Speaking emotionally, the man said the video was made to prevent misinformation about the cause of the singer’s death, adding that efforts were made to save him, but he did not survive the illness.

Born Afeez Adeshina, Destiny Boy rose to prominence at a young age with his unique Fuji-inspired sound. He began his career at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, Lagos, where he worked as a backup dancer for renowned Fuji musician, Pasuma.

He gained widespread attention in 2019 after releasing a Fuji cover of Davido’s hit song If, which went viral on social media. He later released covers of songs by top Nigerian artistes including Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice and Small Doctor.

The late singer also dropped several original tracks such as Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan and Lowkey.

Destiny Boy is survived by his partner, Iremide, and their child, whom they welcomed in November 2024.
