The Senate has approved a ₦50 million support package for five families affected by the recent abduction incident in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the donation during Wednesday’s plenary, describing it as part of the upper chamber’s efforts to provide relief to families who lost loved ones in the tragic incident.

According to Akpabio, ₦10 million will be given to each of the five affected families, including those of the three security personnel who died during the rescue operation and the two teachers who were killed.

He said the intervention reflects the Senate’s commitment to supporting bereaved families while urging security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue other victims still being held by kidnappers in different parts of the country.

Meanwhile, Senator Abdul Ningi, while raising a point of order, called on the Senate to adopt a more inclusive compensation policy for victims of violent attacks across the country.

He argued that assistance should not be restricted to selected categories of victims, stressing that all citizens who suffer losses in such incidents deserve equal support and consideration.
