Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has recounted two unusual incidents he claimed occurred after his election victory and during his administration’s campaign against cultism in the state.

The governor said a bird died in his office shortly after the demolition of the Black House on Sapele Road, an operation linked to his fight against cultism in Edo State.

Okpebholo made the disclosure while addressing worshippers at a church, where he spoke about the role of prayers in overcoming challenges and securing victory in difficult situations.

According to the governor, his orderly informed him that a bird had died close to where he usually sat in his office after the demolition exercise.

He said he instructed the orderly to dispose of the bird without bringing it to him, adding that he believed the battle against cultism had already been won.

Okpebholo used the incident to explain why he believes prayers are important, particularly when confronting challenges that could threaten the peace and security of the state.

The governor also narrated another incident he claimed happened shortly after he won the governorship election.

He said he had gone several days without adequate sleep during the election period and was looking forward to resting when he returned home.

According to him, as he attempted to get into bed, something stopped him, prompting him to look more closely at the bed. He claimed that he subsequently discovered a dead vulture lying on it.

The governor recalled the incident while speaking in the presence of an individual he identified as Sylvester, who he said was with him at the time.

Okpebholo described both incidents as signs of victory, linking them to his efforts to tackle cultism in Edo State.

He suggested that abandoning the campaign against cultism would have amounted to turning away from God, maintaining that he was determined to continue the fight.

The governor’s account centred on his belief in the importance of divine support in confronting challenges, particularly his administration’s efforts to address cult-related activities in the state.

He also used the church gathering to call on Christians to pray for President Bola Tinubu, expressing his desire for the president to record a decisive victory in Edo State.

Okpebholo urged the worshippers to support the president through their prayers, saying he wanted Tinubu to win by a wide margin in the state.

The governor’s appeal came as he encouraged the congregation to remain committed to prayer, presenting it as an important source of support for political leaders and their activities.
