NYSC Issues New Mobilisation Guidelines, Makes NERD Verification Mandatory

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has released fresh guidelines for prospective corps members for the 2026 Batch B Stream II mobilisation exercise across the country.

In a statement posted on Monday, the scheme stressed that all prospective corps members must complete the Nigeria Education Repository and Data Park (NERD) verification process before they can be mobilised for service.

The NYSC warned that anyone who fails to complete the NERD verification would not be eligible for mobilisation. It also advised prospective corps members to avoid travelling to orientation camps at night for security reasons.

The scheme further stated that corps members whose date of graduation on their call-up letters differs from the date on their statements of results would not be registered at the orientation camp.

Affected candidates were advised to resolve such discrepancies with their Student Affairs Officers (SAOs) before reporting to camp.

According to the NYSC, all required documentation must be completed before arrival at the camp, including printing, signing and submitting the necessary registration forms during camp registration.

For candidates seeking correction of their dates of birth, the scheme directed them to obtain a 19- or 20-digit WAEC Verification PIN and process the correction through their NYSC dashboard by selecting the “Correction of Date of Birth” option and providing the required examination details.

The development follows the Federal Government’s decision in May to make NERD compliance compulsory for NYSC mobilisation and exemption.

Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, had said the policy was introduced to strengthen institutional compliance and tackle academic fraud and certificate racketeering.

NERD, established in 2023, is a national digital platform designed to manage, preserve and verify educational records in partnership with government agencies and private organisations.

Alausa said the government would strictly enforce compliance to curb credential falsification and prevent disputes over academic records, adding that more than 133,000 students and 6,800 lecturers had already enrolled on the platform, with over 1,000 digital service centres created nationwide in collaboration with Nigerian tech entrepreneurs.
