JUST IN : PDP Appoints Omar Bolaji Gambari Campaign DG for 2027 Kwara Governorship Election

The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed Prince Omar Bolaji Gambari (OBG), an international lawyer, entrepreneur and corporate strategic adviser, as Director-General of the party’s Campaign Organisation for the 2027 governorship election.

The appointment was reached at an expanded meeting involving the party’s leadership and its governorship candidate, Engr. Suleiman Bolakale Kawu Agaka, and presided over by the State Chairman, Hon. Isa Bawa Adamu.

In a statement issued in Ilorin on Wednesday, the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, said the decision was based on Gambari’s professional experience, organisational capacity, knowledge of Kwara’s political landscape and engagement with young people across the state.

Gambari was among the leading aspirants who participated in the PDP’s 2026 governorship primary process. During the contest, he attracted significant attention to his aspiration, bringing a youthful presence, fresh ideas and international professional experience to the party’s internal process.

Following the emergence of Agaka as the party’s governorship candidate, Gambari remained active in the party’s political engagements. His new role places him at the centre of the coordination of the PDP’s campaign structure ahead of the 2027 election.

The party said Gambari brings “a combination of professional experience, youthful energy, organisational exposure and an understanding of contemporary political communication” to the position.

According to the statement, his professional background spans international law, finance, entrepreneurship, real estate, agriculture and community development, which the party said would be valuable in coordinating a campaign organisation involving people across different backgrounds and generations.

Born into the Ilorin Emirate royal family, Gambari began his education at A.B.U. Staff School, Zaria, before proceeding to the Nigerian Military School, Zaria.

He obtained a first degree in Economics and later studied Law at Fordham University School of Law, New York, United States, where he earned his law degree and was admitted to the New York State Bar in 2000.

Gambari briefly served in the Nigerian Army after obtaining his first degree before working with Merrill Lynch, the American financial services institution now part of Bank of America.

He subsequently worked with the Legal Department of the United Nations and the international law firm Simpson Thacher & Bartlett.

He later established his own private legal practice, advising corporations and institutions on international transactions, joint ventures, commercial matters and dispute resolution across sectors including technology, energy, finance and development.

Beyond legal practice, Gambari has developed business interests in real estate, energy and agriculture and has provided strategic advice to businesses and institutions on enterprise development and international expansion.

His involvement in youth development also dates back to the late 1990s, when he established the Nigerian Youth Organization in New York to connect young Nigerians in the diaspora through social and community activities.

Through the OBG Foundation, he has also supported initiatives focused on youth empowerment, education, mentorship and enterprise development.

Gambari previously contested the House of Representatives seat for Ilorin East/South Federal Constituency under the PDP in 2018 before participating in the party’s 2026 governorship primary process.

The PDP said his experience in international legal practice, the private sector, entrepreneurship and community engagement, coupled with his familiarity with Kwara’s political environment, informed his appointment as Director-General of the 2027 campaign organisation.

The party said the appointment represents another phase in its preparations for the 2027 governorship election, with the campaign structure expected to coordinate activities across the party’s various levels and constituencies.
