Ilorin Building Collapse: Senator Mustapha Mourns Victims, Urges Strict Compliance With Safety Standards

Senator Saliu Mustapha, representing Kwara Central Senatorial District and the Turaki of Ilorin Emirate, has expressed deep sadness over the collapse of a three-storey building in the Popo-Giwa/Abemi area of Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, which claimed four lives.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Senator Mustapha extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic incident, as well as the wider community affected by the disaster.

He commended the Kwara State Fire Service and other emergency response agencies for their prompt intervention and sustained rescue operations despite the difficult conditions at the scene.

The lawmaker urged relevant authorities and property owners to ensure strict compliance with building regulations and safety standards, stressing the importance of regular structural assessments and proper maintenance by qualified professionals.

Senator Mustapha also called on residents to promptly report visible cracks, structural defects and other warning signs that could indicate that a building is unsafe, noting that early intervention could help prevent avoidable loss of lives.

He prayed for the speedy recovery of those rescued and reaffirmed his solidarity with the families of the victims and everyone affected by the tragedy.
