Ilorin Building Collapse: IEYDA Seeks Government, Public Support for Affected families

The Ilorin Emirate Youth Development Association (IEYDA), under the auspices of the Emir of Ilorin, has paid a condolence visit to the Oyan family following the collapse of a building at No. 41 Popo Giwa Street, beside Gogoro Mosque, Ilorin, Kwara State.

The incident, which occurred at about 5:20 a.m. on Tuesday, reportedly trapped members of the Oyan family beneath the collapsed structure, prompting rescue operations by relevant emergency and security agencies.

The IEYDA delegation, led by its National President, Alhaji Muhammad Uthman Jagunmo, included the Chairman of Masingba Okekere Community, Mr. Lawal Ismail Olatunji.

During the visit, the association commiserated with the Oyan family over the tragedy and offered prayers for those who lost their lives, while expressing solidarity with surviving members of the family affected by the incident.

Jagunmo urged residents and community leaders to pay closer attention to the condition of old and deteriorating buildings, stressing the importance of reporting structures showing signs of weakness to the appropriate authorities.

He commended the rescue teams, emergency responders and security agencies for their prompt intervention and efforts to rescue those trapped under the rubble.

The IEYDA president also appreciated the Kwara State Government for its swift response and visit to the scene, describing the intervention as important in managing the aftermath of the tragedy.

However, Jagunmo called on the state government, philanthropists and other well-meaning individuals to urgently support the affected family, particularly through the provision of temporary accommodation or alternative housing for surviving members who may have been displaced by the collapse.

He stressed the need for collective support for the victims and their families during the difficult period, urging stakeholders to ensure that the affected family does not face the aftermath of the tragedy alone.
