The Nigerian Army has held a farewell ceremony for Master Warrant Officers discharged from service at the Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria, Kaduna State.

The ceremony was held at the conference room of the military institution and was attended by the Commandant of the Depot, Brigadier General Usman Ahmad, principal staff officers and heads of various departments.

The event provided an opportunity for the Army to appreciate the discharged personnel for their years of service and offer them guidance as they begin life outside active military duty.

Addressing the former soldiers, Ahmad urged them to maintain peaceful relationships with the communities where they would settle after leaving the service. He also asked them to uphold the values of the Nigerian Army and conduct themselves in ways that would reflect positively on the institution.

The Commandant also encouraged the discharged officers to remain committed to supporting the protection of civilians within their communities where possible.

He advised them to stay physically active by taking part in hobbies and other activities now that they would no longer have the regular duties and routines associated with military service.

Ahmad, speaking on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, expressed appreciation to the Master Warrant Officers for their contributions to the country during their years in uniform.

He wished the discharged personnel success as they moved into the next stage of their lives and urged them to make good use of the experience they gained during their military careers.

The outgoing Regimental Sergeant Major of the Depot, Master Warrant Officer Joshua Agwaru, spoke on behalf of the discharged personnel and expressed appreciation to the Commandant for the support, mentorship and guidance provided during his time in command.

Agwaru said the former soldiers remained willing to make themselves available for service in other capacities whenever their experience and skills were needed.

The farewell ceremony also featured words of advice from senior officers, the presentation of souvenirs and gifts to the discharged personnel, as well as group photographs to mark the occasion.

The event brought together serving officers and the discharged Master Warrant Officers as the Army formally sent them into retirement after their years of service.
