President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Super Eagles for their impressive 2–0 win over Algeria in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Nigeria sealed a place in the semi-finals with a dominant display at the Grand Stade de Marrakech, bringing an end to Algeria’s solid defensive run in the tournament. Prior to the encounter, the Desert Foxes had conceded just one goal, but Nigeria’s pace, intensity and sharp finishing proved decisive in the second half.

Reacting shortly after the match, President Tinubu took to X to praise the team’s performance.

“Brilliant performance… inspiring. Go, Super Eagles! You have the support of all Nigerians,” the President wrote, using the hashtags #Naija4TheWin and #AFCON2025.

After a goalless first half, Nigeria broke the deadlock in the 47th minute when Victor Osimhen headed home a cross from Bruno Onyemaechi. The Super Eagles doubled their lead ten minutes later as Akor Adams finished clinically following a well-worked move involving Osimhen and Alex Iwobi.

Nigeria remained firmly in control for most of the encounter, creating several scoring opportunities and restricting Algeria to no shots on target. Late introductions, including Moses Simon, helped the Super Eagles maintain their dominance and see out the match comfortably.

The victory reinforces Nigeria’s strong title credentials as the team marches confidently into the semi-finals of the competition.
