Former Edo State Governor and Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, has criticised the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, questioning his leadership approach and policy direction.

Oshiomhole described Obi as a trader, arguing that his approach to leadership focuses on short-term gains rather than building lasting structures for future generations.

The senator made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television, where he challenged Obi’s supporters to identify the alternative policies he had presented to Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He questioned what Obi would do differently if elected president, particularly regarding the student loan scheme introduced by the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Oshiomhole asked whether Obi would scrap the scheme on the grounds that Nigerian parents should be able to afford their children’s education.

He also questioned whether the former Anambra State governor would return Nigeria to a multiple exchange rate system or adopt some of the financial measures he allegedly implemented while in office as governor.

According to Oshiomhole, effective leadership requires a president to make difficult decisions and communicate the truth to citizens, even when such decisions are unpopular.

The former governor also accused Obi of taking inconsistent positions on the removal of fuel subsidy, claiming that his comments on the issue changed within a month.

He argued that Obi’s changing positions made it difficult for Nigerians to determine his actual policy direction.

Oshiomhole further questioned Obi’s position on taxation, alleging that the former Anambra governor kept substantial assets in offshore tax havens where taxes were not paid.

He argued that Obi’s alleged financial arrangements raised questions about his credibility to manage Nigeria’s tax system if elected president.

However, the allegations about Obi’s offshore assets and tax payments were claims made by Oshiomhole during the television interview and were not independently established in the remarks provided.
