JAMB Warns Universities Against Issuing Official Admission Letters
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned universities and other tertiary institutions against issuing official admission letters to candidates, stating that the responsibility rests solely with the board.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, gave the warning when he received a delegation from Veritas University, Bwari, Abuja, during a courtesy visit to his office.
Aina explained that JAMB is the only body legally authorised to issue official admission letters to candidates seeking entry into universities, polytechnics and colleges of education across Nigeria.
He expressed concern that candidates often accept admission documents issued directly by institutions as genuine, even when such documents do not meet the board’s requirements.
The registrar urged institutions involved in the practice to stop immediately and ensure that candidates obtain the appropriate admission documents from JAMB.
He recalled that the Federal Ministry of Education had directed all tertiary institutions to conduct admissions through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), warning that admissions processed outside the approved platform are illegal and invalid.
Aina stressed that institutions cannot replace the official JAMB admission letter with their own documents after candidates have accepted their offers through CAPS.
He added that only admissions processed and recognised through the platform would be accepted for purposes such as mobilisation for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
