INEC Begins PVC Distribution Thursday
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will begin the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to eligible registered voters on Thursday, October 8, 2026.
The exercise is part of the commission’s preparations for the 2027 general elections and is expected to give more registered Nigerians access to their voter cards ahead of the polls.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, disclosed the planned distribution during a strategic engagement meeting with journalists in Abuja on Monday.
The distribution will cover voters who recently completed the registration process, those who transferred their voting locations and Nigerians who applied for replacement cards after their previous PVCs were damaged.
The commission is carrying out the exercise as part of efforts to ensure that eligible voters are able to take part in the 2027 elections without difficulties related to access to their voter cards.
Amupitan also said INEC was improving its use of technology to protect the electoral process from the misuse of voter cards.
According to him, measures are being strengthened to prevent stolen, lost or compromised PVCs from being used by unauthorised persons during elections.
The INEC chairman also addressed the conduct of political parties and their supporters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He urged parties and their members to avoid actions that could disrupt the campaigns, rallies and other political activities of rival parties.
The commission is expected to continue its preparations for the 2027 elections as political parties intensify their activities ahead of the polls.
