Lagos to Host 2026 CAF Awards on December 7
Lagos State is set to host the 2026 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards on December 7, 2026.
CAF announced the date in a statement issued on Saturday, confirming Nigeria as the host of the prestigious annual football awards.
Nigeria will also host the CAF Ordinary General Assembly on November 21.
Earlier this year, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved Nigeria’s bid to host the two major CAF events.
As part of preparations, a five-member CAF inspection team visited Nigeria in July to assess facilities and infrastructure earmarked for the events.
The team inspected the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre and Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, which will host activities related to the General Assembly.
The Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, formerly known as the National Art Theatre, in Lagos has been selected as the venue for the CAF Awards, while EKO Hotel & Suites will provide accommodation and hospitality for invited guests.
The CAF Awards is an annual ceremony that recognises outstanding footballers, coaches and other key stakeholders who have contributed to the development of football across Africa.
Nigeria last hosted the CAF Awards ceremony on January 6, 2017, when Algeria’s Riyad Mahrez won the Men’s Player of the Year award, while Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala claimed the women’s prize.
