Banditry: Kebbi Gov To Establish Military Base In Bagudo
Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has announced plans to establish a military base in Bagudo Local Government Area following recent bandit attacks that claimed lives and forced some residents to flee their communities.
Idris made this known on Saturday during a condolence visit to the District Head of Kaoje, Mustapha Usman Adamu, over the death of the Village Head of Lafagu and other victims of the attacks.
The governor described the attacks as unacceptable and assured residents that his administration was working with security agencies to end the activities of bandits in the affected communities.
He said the planned military presence in the area would form part of measures being taken to improve security and create conditions for displaced residents to return to their homes.
Idris also visited some camps housing internally displaced persons from communities affected by the attacks. He assured the displaced residents that the government would continue to provide support while working towards their safe return.
The governor said his administration would take further steps to address the insecurity and restore residents’ confidence in the safety of their communities.
He urged residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands, while calling for cooperation with security agencies.
Idris also asked community members to provide security personnel with useful information about suspicious individuals and activities that could threaten peace in the area.
Responding to the governor’s visit, the District Head of Kaoje thanked him for visiting the affected community and responding to the security situation.
Usman Adamu described the attacks as inhuman and contrary to Islamic teachings, while appreciating the governor and his delegation for expressing sympathy to the victims and their families.
