Manchester City Found Guilty of 114 Financial Breach Charges

Manchester City have reportedly been found guilty of 114 out of 115 charges brought against the club by the Premier League over alleged breaches of its financial rules.

According to The Athletic, which reported the development on Friday, Premier League clubs were informed of the verdict following a meeting on Thursday. The club was reportedly found guilty on all but one of the charges.

However, sanctions have yet to be determined, leaving Manchester City potentially facing a range of possible punishments. The club is also expected to appeal the verdict.

A Manchester City spokesperson, quoted by The Athletic, said the Premier League process was still ongoing.

“The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality.”

The spokesperson added that the club’s position remained consistent with its February 2023 statement, stressing that City had “diligently respected due process” throughout the proceedings.

The Premier League brought the charges against Manchester City over alleged financial breaches covering the period between 2009 and 2018. The investigation followed the publication of leaked financial documents relating to the club by German newspaper Der Spiegel in 2018.

The case was subsequently referred to an independent commission, which conducted hearings into the allegations.

Manchester City have consistently denied wrongdoing and maintained that they complied with the relevant financial regulations.

Since Sheikh Mansour’s takeover, the club have won eight Premier League titles, four FA Cups, seven League Cups and one UEFA Champions League title. Six of those major honours were won after the period covered by the charges.
