Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) and convener of the Take It Back Movement, Omoyele Sowore, has pledged to provide free education at all levels and abolish public examination fees if elected president in the 2027 general elections.

Sowore made the promise on Monday in a post shared on his official X account while reacting to the recent controversy surrounding the proposed increase in the fees for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO).

The Federal Ministry of Education had announced plans to increase WAEC and NECO examination fees from N27,500 to N50,000. However, following widespread public criticism, the proposed fee hike was subsequently suspended.

Responding to the development, Sowore said a government under his leadership would ensure that no Nigerian student pays for WAEC, NECO, or any other public examination.

According to him, education is a fundamental right and should be accessible to every Nigerian regardless of economic background.

He stated that his administration’s education policy would provide free, quality education from early childhood to the university level, supported by modern classrooms, digital learning facilities, improved welfare for teachers, student grants, and equal opportunities for all learners.

Sowore maintained that his commitment goes beyond a political promise, describing it as a pledge to build a country where poverty would no longer determine a child’s access to education or future opportunities.
