The African Democratic Congress has rescheduled its presidential and governorship screening exercise to Monday, May 18, 2026, ahead of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The party announced the development in a statement issued on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.

According to the statement, the screening exercise, initially slated for this weekend, was shifted to Monday without stating specific reasons for the postponement.

“The African Democratic Congress wishes to inform all presidential and governorship aspirants that the party’s screening exercise earlier scheduled for this weekend has been postponed to Monday, May 18, 2026,” the statement said.

The party also revealed changes to the screening arrangements for some federal lawmaker aspirants from parts of Northern Nigeria affected by insecurity.

ADC explained that the affected aspirants would now be screened in Abuja due to the prevailing security challenges in some northern states.

“Furthermore, due to the security situation affecting some parts of Northern Nigeria, the screening of affected federal lawmakers’ aspirants will now take place in Abuja,” the statement added.

The party assured aspirants that they would be contacted directly with updated schedules and other necessary details.

ADC also apologised for any inconvenience caused by the adjustment and appealed for the understanding and cooperation of aspirants and stakeholders.

The development comes as political parties continue internal consultations and screening processes ahead of the 2027 elections, with several parties intensifying preparations for their primaries and candidate selections.

The ADC, one of the opposition parties seeking wider national relevance ahead of the polls, has recently increased consultations and mobilisation efforts across the country amid ongoing political realignments.
