Tinubu Condemns Jos, Kaduna Killings, Vows Justice
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has strongly condemned the recent attacks on communities in Plateau State and Kaduna State, describing the perpetrators as “heartless cowards” who will face justice.
The attacks occurred over the weekend, with suspected bandits invading a wedding ceremony in Kahir village, Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State on Saturday, killing 13 people and abducting 28 others. On Sunday, gunmen opened fire in Angwan Rukuba district of Jos, the capital of Plateau State, killing about 28 persons and injuring several others.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu described the incidents as “barbaric and cowardly,” stressing that such acts are a direct affront to Nigeria’s values.
He warned that those responsible for the killings, as well as individuals spreading misinformation capable of escalating tensions, would be apprehended and prosecuted.
“Anyone who attacks defenceless citizens under the cover of darkness, as seen in Jos and Kahir village, is a heartless coward,” the president stated, adding that targeting vulnerable communities is aimed at inciting further violence.
Tinubu disclosed that he has directed security agencies to intensify efforts to track down the attackers and prevent further incidents. He also cautioned the media against framing the attacks along religious lines.
The president urged residents to cooperate with security directives, including evacuation and relocation orders where necessary, while calling for collective efforts to maintain peace and safeguard lives and property.
He further ordered the immediate rescue of all remaining abductees from the Kaduna attack and called on security agencies to act swiftly on intelligence to prevent future occurrences.
Tinubu commended the governors of the affected states, Caleb Mutfwang and Uba Sani, for their response to the incidents.
He also extended his condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured, assuring Nigerians that the federal government is strengthening security operations with advanced equipment to tackle criminal activities more effectively.
