Gawuna Resigns as FMBN Chairman Ahead of Planned Defection
Nasiru Gawuna has stepped down as Chairman of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), signaling a fresh political move ahead of upcoming developments in Kano.
Gawuna, a former APC governorship candidate in Kano, confirmed that his resignation—dated March 27, 2026—takes immediate effect and aligns with a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu requiring political appointees to step down in line with the Electoral Act.
He expressed gratitude to the President for the opportunity to serve, describing his time in office as an honour.
Reports indicate that Gawuna is set to defect politically, with plans to align with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and formally join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He also assured stakeholders of a smooth and orderly handover, as political realignments continue to shape the landscape ahead of future elections.
