Nasiru Gawuna, the 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, has resigned from the party.

Gawuna, who previously served as deputy governor of Kano State, expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunities he had during his time as a member. However, he did not disclose his next political move.

The resignation comes shortly after he stepped down as chairman of the board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria. In a separate letter dated March 27 and addressed to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Gawuna said his decision was in line with a directive issued by Bola Ahmed Tinubu to political appointees.

Kwankwaso, who was the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party in the 2023 elections, recently defected to the African Democratic Congress.
