Yahaya Bello Ordered to Pay N500m Damages Over Rights Violation of SDP Candidate, Ajaka
The court also directed Bello to publicly apologize to Ajaka and issued an injunction restraining security agencies from further harassing Ajaka.
A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State to pay N500 million in damages for violating the rights of Murtala Ajaka, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the November 11 governorship election.
The court also directed Bello to publicly apologize to Ajaka and issued an injunction restraining security agencies from further harassing Ajaka.
Ajaka had sought protection, alleging threats and an attempt on his life, especially after moving from the APC to the SDP.
The court found the governor’s counter affidavit weak, stating that Bello and security agencies violated Ajaka’s rights.
