Wizkid is one of my inspirations, Asake says
Nigerian artist Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has revealed that he draws inspiration from Grammy-winning singer Wizkid.
The two recently collaborated on ‘MMS,’ the opening track of Asake’s newly released third studio album, ‘Lungu Boy.’
In a note accompanying the song, Asake expressed his admiration for Wizkid, stating that he had long looked up to him and had eagerly awaited the chance to work together.
“Wizkid has always been one of my musical inspirations. As an up-and-coming artist in Lagos, I was waiting for the perfect song, and when the opportunity finally came, it was an easy decision,” he wrote.
Asake, known for his hit ‘Amapiano,’ also explained that ‘MMS’ stands for ‘Mr Money Sound,’ which represents his musical journey.
Asake first gained widespread recognition in 2020 with his breakout single ‘Lady.’
In February 2022, he signed with YBNL, the record label founded by Olamide, and has since released two successful studio albums: ‘Mr Money With The Vibes’ (2022) and ‘Work of Art’ (2023).
His talent has earned him several awards and nominations, including a nomination in the ‘Best African Music Performance’ category at the 2024 Grammys for ‘Amapiano,’ his hit collaboration with Olamide.
Wizkid, who rose to fame with his 2010 hit ‘Holla at Your Boy,’ is one of Africa’s most celebrated artists.
His contributions to the music industry, including a Grammy Award for his work on Beyoncé’s ‘Brown Skin Girl,’ have solidified his status as one of the most decorated African musicians of all time.
