Wike : Nigerians Would Have Voted for Obi if he was a Stronger Candidate
Wike shared his perspective during an exclusive appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today show. Despite being a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the standard bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Wike supported the APC’s presidential candidate over Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s candidate.
Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, has expressed that had Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) flag bearer, been a stronger candidate, he would have garnered Nigerian votes in the February 25, 2023 election.
When questioned about Obi’s potential to address critical economic challenges compared to Tinubu, Wike chose not to engage in discussions about presidential candidates, focusing instead on broader economic matters and the President’s offerings.
Wike further stated, “If Obi had demonstrated greater capability, Nigerians would have chosen him.” In the election where APC’s Tinubu emerged victorious, Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, secured the third position.
Both the LP and PDP candidates are pursuing legal action to contest the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) declaration of Tinubu as the winner.
