Senate President Godswill Akpabio has shed light on why President Bola Tinubu selected Nyesom Wike as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). According to Akpabio, Wike’s impressive track record in public service made him a natural choice for the position.

Speaking on Friday at a book launch commemorating Wike’s 57th birthday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Akpabio described the FCT Minister as a highly dedicated and result-oriented public servant.

“Let me explain why President Tinubu appointed you to the Federal Executive Council (FEC), even as an opposition politician,” Akpabio said. “Your exceptional performance as a local government chairman, chief of staff to the Rivers State government, minister, and two-term governor earned you this role.”

The Senate President praised Wike’s unyielding commitment to public service, highlighting his care for others and his ability to deliver on challenging tasks.

“Your dedication to community development, both as a governor and now as a minister, has left an unforgettable legacy in our nation’s history,” Akpabio remarked. “The bridges you’ve built—both physical and metaphorical—stand as symbols of progress and unity.”

Reflecting on Wike’s political journey, Akpabio noted that his leadership has significantly impacted Nigeria’s political landscape.

“Your contributions during your tenure as governor remain a beacon of hope. Your focus on infrastructure, education, and healthcare set a standard for governance,” Akpabio added.

He also extended his gratitude to Wike’s family for their unwavering support throughout his career.
