We’ll unseat you in 2027 – Wike tells FCT Senator

Nyesom Wike, the Minister overseeing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has said that Senator Ireti Kingibe, who currently represents the nation’s capital, won’t be running for re-election in 2027.
Wike made this statement in Abuja during the launch of the Mabushi bus terminal.
Wike spoke proudly of his administration’s achievements since being appointed by President Tinubu. He challenged critics, especially lawmakers, asking them to show what they’ve done to improve education and healthcare through legislative action.
The relationship between Wike and Kingibe has been tense since they took office. Kingibe, a member of the Labour Party (LP), defeated Philip Aduda of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general election. Aduda, a close ally of Wike, had served as a senator from 2011 to 2023.
Kingibe has accused Wike of neglecting her despite her role as FCT senator, leading to frequent public disputes between the two.
Wike responded that Kingibe’s dissatisfaction likely stems from his close ties with Aduda and her ambitions within the Senate Committee on FCT.
