The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared its readiness to confront and prevent electoral fraud in the upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states.

The party emphasized its commitment to ensuring a fair and democratic process, vowing to thwart any attempt to undemocratically seize power in these states.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled the Edo and Ondo governorship elections for September 21 and November 16, respectively. Asue Ighodalo is the PDP’s candidate in Edo, while Agboola Ajayi, former deputy governor of Ondo State, will represent the party in Ondo.

During the inauguration of the National Campaign Councils for the elections, PDP Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum stated that the party would not allow anyone to steal their victory in Edo and Ondo.

He addressed recent remarks by President Bola Tinubu, asserting that Edo’s democratic process would not be dictated by external influences, emphasizing the party’s strong democratic values and the achievements under Governor Godwin Obaseki’s leadership.

Damagum assured that the PDP would uphold transparency during the elections, rejecting any nighttime result announcements and stressing the party’s preparedness to retain Edo and compete fiercely in Ondo.

He praised the democratic emergence of the party’s candidates and called for vigilance against electoral malpractice, urging party members to exhibit courage and resolve.

The Chairmen of the Edo and Ondo PDP Governorship Campaign Councils, Ahmadu Fintiri and Ademola Adeleke, echoed these sentiments, expressing confidence in their readiness to secure victories in both states through dedicated efforts and leveraging popular support.

Overall, the PDP’s strategy revolves around ensuring electoral integrity, defending democratic principles, and mobilizing support to maintain and expand its influence in Edo and Ondo states.
