We’ll diligently scrutinise 2024 budget proposal – House of reps speaker

Tajudeen Abbas, the House of Representatives Speaker, stated that the upcoming 2024 budget will undergo thorough scrutiny by the parliament.

During President Bola Tinubu’s presentation of the N27 trillion proposed budget on Wednesday, Abbas emphasized that the appropriation bill would be carefully examined.

While committing to an accelerated review, he assured that lawmakers would prioritize addressing the critical needs of Nigerians in each ministerial component.

Abbas urged cooperation from ministries, departments, and agencies during budget defense, emphasizing the importance of a national summit for the budget to foster commitment to national development.

He acknowledged the challenging weeks ahead for legislators and stressed the necessity of ensuring the budget meets public expectations.

Furthermore, Abbas highlighted the focus on sustainable debt management strategies, including revenue increase and expenditure control, in response to the challenge of high public debt in the 2024 budget.
