The organized labor union has stated that it cannot accept a minimum wage of N100,000 after previously rejecting a proposed N62,000.

Meanwhile, the 37-member Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage submitted its report to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday after approximately five months of deliberations.

Labor had suspended a planned indefinite nationwide strike for a week following the federal government’s request for negotiations after the industrial action of the previous Monday, which significantly impacted the country.

Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), called an emergency meeting with labor leaders after the strike, which had severely disrupted economic activities.

At the conclusion of the meeting, it was announced that the federal government had offered a minimum wage higher than N60,000.

Despite resuming negotiations, disagreements persisted on Friday as the government increased its offer from N60,000 to N62,000.

The federal government and private sector representatives in the tripartite committee proposed N62,000, while organized labor reduced their demand from N494,000 to N250,000.
