We will remain impartial, professional – IGP

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has assured that the police will ensure a “level playing field” for all political parties in the upcoming September 21 governorship election in Edo State.
Egbetokun made this statement in Benin, the Edo State capital, on Thursday during a peace accord signing ceremony, involving political parties and their candidates, ahead of the election.
The peace accord, initiated by the National Peace Committee led by former military head of state Abubakar Abdulsalami, was signed by several candidates, including Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP). However, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate declined to sign.
The IGP emphasized the police’s commitment to neutrality and professionalism during the election, urging all stakeholders to collaborate in fostering a peaceful atmosphere for the election.
“I’m here today to reaffirm our commitment to a peaceful and secure electoral process,” Egbetokun stated. “We recognize the significance of this moment and the responsibility entrusted to us to safeguard the integrity of this election. We will remain impartial, professional, and vigilant in providing a level playing field for political parties and their candidates. I call on all stakeholders to embrace peace, tolerance, and respect as we work together to create a conducive environment for a free, fair, and peaceful election, where every voter can exercise their rights without fear or intimidation.”
