We have enough water to quench your fire – Bala Mohammed tells Wike

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi has responded to the comments made by Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), who threatened to “put fire” in states governed by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders supporting Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Fubara and Wike have been at odds for several months. Speaking at a recent PDP congress in Rivers, Wike warned fellow party governors not to meddle in the affairs of the opposition within Rivers State, promising to “put fire” in the states of those siding with Fubara.
However, during a meeting with members of the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) in Bauchi on Tuesday, Governor Mohammed firmly stated that his state is untouchable.
“We stand united, and no one can set Bauchi on fire,” he declared. “We have ample water to extinguish any fire, even if it comes from my friend Wike, who only spoke out of frustration. This isn’t a personal issue.”
The Bauchi governor further emphasized the importance of focusing on governance and party principles. He said, “My friendship with Wike stands, but my responsibilities to the people of Bauchi and my duties as governor are separate. This NWC visit shows that Nigeria’s future remains hopeful, and the PDP continues to be a unifying force for peace and stability.”
Governor Mohammed also acknowledged the presence of challenges within political parties, including the PDP, but noted that such crises are what necessitate decisive action. He called for adherence to the rule of law, respect for diversity, and collaboration within the PDP to move the party forward.
“The PDP has a rich legacy,” he added. “Most of the significant developments in Nigeria occurred under the PDP, and since the party left power, progress has stalled.”
Kamaldeen Adeyemi, the PDP’s National Legal Adviser, echoed these sentiments, stating that the NWC members were in Bauchi to show their solidarity with Governor Mohammed.
