WAEC Nears Adoption of CBT for Exams
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Areghan discussed his tenure, set to conclude on October 1, and his vision for WAEC’s future.
WAEC, The West African Examinations Council, is in advanced stages of implementing Computer-Based Testing (CBT) for its examinations, according to Mr. Patrick Areghan, the Head of National Office (HNO).
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Areghan discussed his tenure, set to conclude on October 1, and his vision for WAEC’s future.
He mentioned the challenges of implementing CBT for practical and essay papers and emphasized the need for computer literacy and infrastructure in schools.
Areghan suggested a phased approach, starting with objective questions before moving to theory and practical exams.
Additionally, he expressed his desire to see WAEC fully digitalized and expand its international presence, allowing Nigerian students in the diaspora to take the WASSCE overseas.
Areghan also highlighted achievements during his tenure, including the introduction of a digital certificate and a digital security printing press, as well as efforts to support staff.
His greatest achievement, he noted, was the successful conduct of exams even during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
