Voting APC an endorsement of hunger and misery – Atiku tells Edo residents

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged voters to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Edo governorship election slated for September 21.

In a post on his X account on Wednesday, Abubakar argued that voting for the APC would signify an endorsement of “misery, hunger, and despair.”

As the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abubakar claimed that the APC had driven Nigeria into widespread suffering, spreading poverty, insecurity, and hopelessness.

He encouraged voters to reflect on whether the APC had improved their lives or worsened their struggles before making their choice at the polls.

Abubakar endorsed Asue Ighodalo, the PDP candidate for the Edo governorship, as a path toward reversing the failures of the APC, stating that the ruling party had abandoned the principles of governance and neglected the concerns of the common people.

“As Edo State prepares to make its voice heard on Saturday, September 21, 2024, let us remember the great power we hold — the power to break free from poor governance and steer our beloved state in a new direction. This power is in your vote, a vital tool for change,” he said.

He described the APC as presenting a false front of friendship to the masses, masking a deeper reality of being driven by a thirst for power rather than the well-being of citizens.

Abubakar further criticized the APC for plunging Nigeria into hardship and deepening the country’s struggles, saying the party’s actions have led to poverty, insecurity, and a loss of national hope.

“In this harsh reality, hunger, not disease, is killing our people. We are at the lowest point in the nation’s governance. The APC has not served the people; they have served themselves,” he remarked.

He added that when citizens protested their suffering, they were silenced and charged with treason, while APC leaders enjoyed luxury.

However, Abubakar expressed optimism, highlighting that Ighodalo represents a beacon of integrity and vision, offering a competent and dedicated alternative if elected.
