Vlogger Afobaje slumps, dies while playing football in Lagos

Alli Abiodun Abimbola, popularly known as Afobaje, the social media celebrity and travel vlogger, has passed away.

The lifestyle expert reportedly collapsed while playing football in the Ikeja Cement area of Lagos on Saturday.

The exact cause of death remains unknown.

A blogger on Instagram, identified as (@naijashimadun_), shared their last interaction with Afobaje on the eve of his demise.

According to the post, Afobaje was worried about the financial situation at home following the #EndBadGovernance protest and had sent money to his loved ones.

“This was my chat with him yesterday. He was so concerned about the people at home, who had no food due to the protest,” the blogger wrote.

“Even though I suggested postponing the giveaway, he insisted on sending money from his limited resources. I’m glad he brought joy to many faces yesterday, not knowing he had only a few hours left.”

Many Nigerians, including actor Femi Adebayo, have taken to social media to pay tributes to Afobaje as news of his death spreads.

The film star described Afobaje as “a guardian who embodied Yoruba culture” on Instagram.

“A true champion and guardian of Yoruba culture, you embodied our heritage inside and out, proudly representing our race. It breaks our hearts that you left us so soon. We’ll miss you more than words can say. Rest in peace, beloved omolúwàbí òdodo from the Temple of Olódùmarè,” he wrote.

“May the Almighty give his family and loved ones the strength and comfort they need to bear this unimaginable loss.”
