Vinicius Junior to Miss Liverpool Clash Due to Hamstring Injury

Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior will miss the upcoming Champions League match against Liverpool after suffering a hamstring injury, the club confirmed on Monday.

“Following tests conducted today, Vinicius Junior has been diagnosed with a hamstring injury in his left leg by Real Madrid’s medical team,” the statement read.

Spanish media reports suggest the Brazilian winger could be sidelined for up to a month, ruling him out not only of Wednesday’s match at Anfield but also the Champions League game against Atalanta on December 10.

Vinicius played the full 90 minutes in Real Madrid’s 3-0 victory over Leganes in La Liga on Sunday, providing an assist for Kylian Mbappe’s opening goal.

The 24-year-old has been in outstanding form this season, even outshining summer signing Mbappe. With four Champions League goals in as many appearances and eight La Liga goals in 13 games, Vinicius finished second in the Ballon d’Or voting.

Despite holding the Champions League title, Madrid has had a rocky start to their European campaign, suffering two defeats in their first four matches, including a 1-0 loss at Lille and a 3-1 home defeat to AC Milan. They currently sit 18th in the group stage standings.

Liverpool, led by new coach Arne Slot, are currently at the top of both the Premier League and Champions League tables.
