In the midst of a public dispute with his Serie A club, Napoli, Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has taken down all images and videos featuring Napoli’s jersey from his Instagram account.

This move follows a controversial video posted on Napoli’s official TikTok account, which openly ridiculed Osimhen for missing a penalty against Bologna. The video featured a high-pitched voice in the background pleading for a penalty and even drew comparisons between Osimhen and a coconut.

Osimhen has managed to score three times in six appearances in the early stages of the season for the struggling Italian champions, Napoli. The 24-year-old became a Naples icon after netting 31 goals in all competitions last season, helping Napoli secure their first league title since 1990.

Despite attracting interest from Chelsea and Manchester United over the summer, Osimhen is currently in negotiations for a contract extension with Napoli, as his current deal is set to expire in June 2025.

His transfer to Napoli from Lille for an initial 70 million euros three years ago is currently under investigation by Italian authorities.

‘Legal Action Looms’

Victor Osimhen’s agent has threatened legal action against Napoli following a TikTok video published on the club’s official profile that mocked him for the missed penalty in a recent goalless draw against Bologna.

Calenda, Osimhen’s agent, expressed his outrage on Twitter, condemning the video as unacceptable and damaging to the player. He mentioned their intention to pursue legal action to protect Victor from ongoing media trials and fake news.

Recent reports in Italian media indicate that Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is under investigation by prosecutors in Rome for potentially inflating the transfer’s value, involving four players sold to Lille as part of the deal.

Napoli currently sits seventh in Serie A, trailing league leaders Inter Milan by seven points, with only two wins in their first five domestic matches.”
