Use your platforms To Promote Good Governance, Afritel charges Journalists

Afritel Multimedia Limited, Albarka FM, has urged Journalists in Kwara state, to be active in promoting good governance and accountability.

At the conclusion of a three day intensive training for media personnel and social media influencers in Kwara, on good governance and accountability, participants were enjoined to be balance and objective in reporting stories.

The training which was at the instance of Albarka FM in conjunction with the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism and MacArthur Foundation was to equip journalists with needed skills in promoting good governance and accountability at the community level in Kwara State.

15 media personnel drawn from across media organizations within Kwara state were taken through rudiments needed for journalists to promote good governance and accountability.

The areas of coverage during the 3-day workshop included Data Journalism, Investigative Journalism, Social Media, and Media Freedom among others.

The training featured a field trip, where participants were divided in two groups (A & B).

Group A were assigned to visited Late General Tunde Idiagbon’s flyover at Tanke, in order to check the status of the work done and, also, investigate on the economic impact of the ongoing flyover project to the state.

Also, the second group went to investigate an abandoned skill acquisition centre located at Sobi Alagbado area which was later discovered that has been converted to a secondary school.

Facilitators which included Mr Akinlolu Akinpelumi, Mayowa Adeniran, Sola Fagorusi, and Charles Mbah, enjoined the participants to take advantage of the opportunity to become versatile and well-rounded investigative Journalists.

Speaking at the end of the three-day training held at Bovina Hotels in Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital, the General Manager of Albarka FM, Dr Rasheed Adigun, in his address, said that the training is meant to enlightened media influencers on good governance and accountability in the state.

Dr, Rasheed however, charged the participants to reciprocate the skills acquired at the training by using their platforms to bring the government close to the masses.
