Liverpool pulled off a 3-1 comeback victory against AC Milan in their UEFA Champions League clash at San Siro on Tuesday night.

Though Mohamed Salah didn’t find the back of the net, his presence was instrumental in Liverpool’s resurgence.

Goals from Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk helped overturn an early deficit, with Dominik Szoboszlai adding a third to seal the win for the Reds.

Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze remained on the bench for AC Milan, while fellow Nigerian youngster Victor Eletu wasn’t included in the matchday squad.

Liverpool initially fell behind just three minutes into the match when former Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic capitalized on a defensive error, driving home a low shot.

However, the tide turned with towering headers from Konate and van Dijk. Konate nodded in a free kick to level the score at 1-1, before van Dijk replicated the feat from a corner to give Liverpool a 2-1 lead by halftime. Szoboszlai then converted a Cody Gakpo pass in the 66th minute to ensure new manager Arne Slot enjoyed a winning start in his European campaign.

The victory also saw Liverpool become the first team to mount a comeback Champions League win at San Siro since 2021 — a record they previously set.

Meanwhile, in other matches, Harry Kane delivered a masterclass for Bayern Munich, scoring four goals — including three penalties — as they demolished Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 in Germany. Kane’s tally of 33 Champions League goals now makes him the highest-scoring English player in the competition, surpassing Wayne Rooney’s 30.

Elsewhere, Kylian Mbappe opened his account for Real Madrid in their 3-1 win over Stuttgart, as the reigning champions kicked off their title defense at the Santiago Bernabeu.
