TUC President Criticizes FG’s N48,000 Minimum Wage Proposal

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has criticized the Federal Government’s proposal of a N48,000 minimum wage, labeling it as nonsensical.
TUC President, Festus Osifo, expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s lack of seriousness in negotiations with workers.
Osifo pointed out that the lowest-paid federal workers already earn up to N77,000, making the proposed N48,000 inadequate.
He challenged the government to provide data justifying the proposal’s feasibility for average Nigerian workers.
Earlier, labour unions walked out of negotiations due to what they deemed as an unacceptable offer from the government.
The unions had proposed a N615,000 minimum wage, contrasting sharply with the government’s unsupported N48,000 offer.
Osifo emphasized the necessity for the government to conclude discussions on the new national minimum wage by the end of May.
