Tribunal Dismisses SDP’s Petition Against fintiri, Imposes N200,000 Fine
After Umar Fintiri was declared the victor in the March 18 governorship election, SDP’s governorship candidate, Umar Ardo, and his running mate, Amos Yusuf, contested the results at the tribunal, asserting that the election was not conducted in accordance with the Electoral Act. They claimed that the election involved corrupt practices, threats, and violence.
The Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Yola has rejected SDP’s complaint against Governor Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State and imposed a fine of N200,000 on the party.
However, the tribunal’s chairman, Justice Theresa Uboho, ruled that the petition was inadequate, flawed, inconsistent, and improperly submitted. She also stated that the petitioners had failed to present sufficient evidence to substantiate their allegations of corrupt practices.
As a result, the tribunal dismissed the petition and ordered a fine of N200,000 in favor of INEC, Governor Fintiri, Prof Farauta Kaletapwa, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the petitioners.
