Tribunal Dismisses Ighodalo’s Petition, Affirms Okpebholo as Edo Governor

The Edo Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja has upheld Senator Monday Okpebholo’s election as Edo State Governor, dismissing the petition filed by PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo.
A three-member panel led by Justice Wilfred Kpochi ruled that the petitioners failed to provide credible evidence of electoral non-compliance. The Tribunal noted that most witnesses presented by the PDP gave hearsay evidence and failed to call polling unit officers or voters to substantiate their claims.
It also stated that BVAS machines tendered by the PDP were not accessed, as it was not the Tribunal’s duty to extract data from them. The panel emphasized that proving overvoting required a combination of voters’ registers, BVAS records, and polling unit results, which the petitioners failed to present convincingly.
Consequently, the Tribunal dismissed Ighodalo’s petition for lacking merit, affirming Okpebholo’s victory, as earlier declared by INEC, with 291,667 votes against Ighodalo’s 247,655.
