Social media influencer Reno Omokri has called on President Bola Tinubu to prohibit sports betting apps in Nigeria, suggesting that such a ban could enhance the value of the Naira.

Citing the National Lottery Trust Fund, Omokri expressed concern about the $1 billion daily expenditure on gambling in the country.

He proposed an executive order to ban sports betting apps, emphasizing the economic benefits and contrasting it with the controversial #TwitterBan.

Omokri highlighted the negative impact of gambling on the economy, urging action to address what he termed a threat to national security.

Several Nigerian sports betting firms, including Bet9ja and Nairabet, were mentioned in the context of the issue.

The Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Zephaniah Jisalo, assured a government effort to resolve revenue-related challenges in the gaming sector during the 2023 International Gaming Conference.
