Tinubu Seeks Senate Approval for 11 Judges
This request follows the National Judicial Council’s recommendation for their elevation to the Supreme Court.
President Bola Tinubu has urged the Senate to confirm 11 judges from the Court of Appeal as justices of the Supreme Court.
This request follows the National Judicial Council’s recommendation for their elevation to the Supreme Court.
The current vacancy arose due to the passing of Centus Nweze and retirements of Amina Augie and Dattijo Muhammad, leaving the Supreme Court with 10 justices.
The constitution permits a maximum of 21 justices in the Supreme Court.
The nominated justices include Jummai Hannatu Sankey, Chidiebere Nwaoma Uwa, Chioma Egondu Nwosu-Iheme, Haruna Simon Tsammani, Moore Aseimo A. Adumein, Obande Festus Ogbuinya, and Stephen Jonah Adah, among others. The nominees are set to undergo screening by the Senate Committee on Judiciary.
