President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for the appointment of Zacch Adedeji as the new interim executive chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

Tinubu has also directed Muhammad Nami, the current chairman of FIRS, to initiate a three-month pre-retirement leave, as stipulated by Public Service Rule (PSR) 120243, effective immediately.

This leave will result in Nami’s eventual retirement from service on December 8, 2023, according to a statement released on Thursday by Ajuri Ngelale, the president’s special adviser on media and publicity.

Ngelale announced that Adedeji’s appointment, following the president’s directives, takes immediate effect.

“Hon. Zacch Adedeji is hereby appointed in an acting capacity for a 90-day period before his subsequent confirmation as the substantive executive chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service for an initial term of four (4) years,” the statement reads.

“Hon. Zacch Adedeji is a distinguished accounting graduate from Obafemi Awolowo University. He most recently served the nation as the special adviser to the president on revenue.”

Before his appointment as special adviser, Adedeji served as the commissioner of finance in Oyo state.

He also held the positions of executive secretary and chief executive officer (CEO) at the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC).
